There are many benefits of adopting a senior dachshund. Like most shelter/rescues, they are very appreciative of a second chance to live a happy, healthy, cage free life. Dachshunds can live to 20  yrs old. That 9 yr old dachshund has only lived to be half her age, she has a lot of life in her. She could learn to sing like Mitzi in the photo on the right. Mitzi just melts into your heart, and into a great chair or couch. She has great recall, a tough, playful girl, defends her house with Dachshund style vocals.
The personalities of many dachshunds are endless; funny, clowns, sweet, gentle, strong, brave, determined, loving, theiving. These things shine through in a matter of days after a senior is brought home. A senior dachshund has tons of experience in the world and can help you.  A senior dachshund still plays, goes for walks, needs loving, and loves sleeping. They are very smart and probably already knows a few tricks, like how to get you to give them that leftover on your plate without you knowing it was his idea. You can be sure that at one point, he or she was potty trained already. A refresher course for correct toilet training may be in order, but an older dog can learn new tricks.
